Marvis Skelton is a journal for Travel & Hotel. Honest guides for the curious traveller, written by working testers, not salesmen.

Who we are

We are a small crew of travel writers and former hotel staff who got tired of brochures pretending to be advice. Marvis Skelton started in 2019 as a two-person notebook of trip notes. Today it reaches thousands of monthly readers planning their next escape.

We are not a media giant, and we do not want to be. A small team means every guide is written by someone who was actually there, and every correction reaches a human who can fix it the same day. That is the whole advantage of staying small.

Our mission

We help you travel better for less. Every week we publish free news and buying guides on Destinations, Hotels & Resorts, Budget Travel, Food & Culture, and Travel Gear: real 2026 prices, tested packing lists, and clear verdicts you can act on.

That means fewer lists and more receipts. When we say a hotel is worth $176 a night, we paid it. When we say a carry-on survives cobbles, we dragged it there. The guides are free because readers trust them, not because an advertiser paid for them.

Editorial standards

No sponsored picks, no pay-to-rank lists. We book and buy at retail what we test, disclose relationships, and correct mistakes in public within 48 hours. Numbers come from our own receipts and official tourism boards — never from press releases. If a hotel fails in real use, we say so.

We do not accept free stays, free gear or paid trips for coverage. If a brand sends something unsolicited, we either return it or mention the gift in the article. Any affiliate link is labelled, and it never decides whether a product appears or how it is ranked.

The team

Marvis Skelton (Editor, 12 years on the road), Dana Whitlock (Hotels & Resorts, ex-front desk), and Rueben Alvarez (Gear & Budget). Supported by contributing testers who review every guide before it ships.

Between us we have slept in more than four hundred hotels, missed a dozen flights, and once carried a broken suitcase across three countries. That experience is the only credential that matters here.
