How we test
We set a budget before each trip and track every purchase. We stay at least two nights in any hotel we review, in a standard room rather than a suite. We eat street food for days, not hours. We carry the gear we write about through airports, train stations and one memorable potholed road.
The result is slower than a press trip and far less comfortable. It is also the only way to know whether a place, a bed or a bag actually holds up. When something fails, we report it; when a cheap option beats an expensive one, we say that too.
We cross-check every destination against neutral references such as the Wikipedia travel portal before we publish. We also confirm entry rules with official tourism boards. If a guide is out of date, tell us and we will correct it in public.
Every guide carries the month it was last checked. We also list the currency we paid in and the season we travelled. Prices move, ferries cancel and restaurants close. So we revisit the ten most-read guides each quarter. Anything that no longer matches the ground gets rewritten. If a hotel changes hands or a trail closes, we remove the old advice instead of patching it. The correction is noted at the foot of the page. That is slower than publishing once and leaving it. It keeps the archive honest.
